Mr. Nathan Tuttle
Hello Students, Parents, Community Members and Visitors,
I am Nathan Tuttle, proud Head of School at Edison School of the Arts, Inc. We are located in miraculous downtown Indianapolis! This opportunity to be the instructional leader for Edison School of the Arts is such a marriage of my two passions, elementary instruction and the arts.
Growing up on a farm in Shelby county, being in marching band from fifth grade until I graduated high school, and receiving our high school's teaching scholarship, I naturally sought a career in music education. I received my bachelor's degree in Music Education from Indiana University in 1998. I began my teaching career in Batesville, IN teaching children's choir and general music to grades 4 and 5. I always maintained a residence here in the Broad Ripple area, simply making a long but meditative commute when fuel was only $1.18 a gallon. During my time in Batesville, I became more and more acquainted with Indianapolis Children's Choir and eventually became a satellite conductor for ICC while also accepting a music and choir position with the International School of Indiana.
While teaching at ISI, conducting their choirs and working with ICC, I found my interests shifting to school administration, paired with a desire to get back into public education. I soon accepted a position with IPS and haven't looked back. I eventually took the next step and obtained a master's degree allowing me to become a School Administrator. After teaching music for a few more years, I was afforded the opportunity to become the Assistant Principal at James A. Garfield, IPS #31, the same school in which I was teaching. I was able to gain more knowledge and experience in being an instructional leader which was paramount in preparing me for challenges and opportunities ahead.
In the spring of 2014, I accepted a position as the Principal for Nicholson Performing Arts Academy. After only 2 years, IPS decided to expand our program from K-5 to K-8 and move us to a more central location in an even more beautiful and equipped facility. Every day I wake up energized and ready to work hard for our students, parents, staff members, and community partners to ensure that Edison is always running with the best and brightest of renowned schools of its kind.
I am passionate about children's education, safety, artistic development, and emotional well being. Edison is a place where a child is in an environment that encompasses all of those passions and where dreams, knowledge and children's talents can soar to new heights!
We welcome you to Edison School of the Arts! Welcome Home!
