When the 2019-20 school year begins, several IPS schools will welcome new principals. Here’s your chance to get to know more about these new school leaders.

 

Krista Douglass  — Raymond F. Brandes School 65

Krista Douglass has been an educator for nearly 10 years. She’s spent five of those teaching in Indianapolis Public Schools.

Most recently, Douglass has served as an assistant principal and literacy coach at Lew Wallace School 107. While at Lew Wallace, she worked to improve school reading scores through weekly professional development.

When asked about her goals as Raymond F. Brandes’ new principal, she said, “I hope to instill a culture of love and respect in our school where every person will be greeted with kindness when they enter our building. Every student will be given exactly what he or she needs to grow not only academically, but also socially and emotionally.”

Douglass received her master’s degree from Butler University in educational administration and a bachelor’s degree, also from Butler, in elementary education, with a minor in Spanish.

 

 

Amanda Faulkner — Carl Wilde School 79

Amanda Faulkner has served more than 23 years as an educator and has spent 20 of them in Indianapolis Public Schools. She’s a longtime member of the Carl Wilde school community, having started as a teacher in 1999 and working her way up to assistant principal and most recently serving as the interim principal for six months.

Faulkner is dedicated to providing a well-balanced, supportive and engaging learning environment for all students.

When asked about her leadership philosophy, Faulkner said, “I plan to focus on a team-building approach across the grade levels to improve social and academic skills. My goal is to inspire the school community to value one another as well as to celebrate solutions rather than be plagued by problems.”

Faulkner earned her master’s degree in educational administration and supervision from Ball State University. She also earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Ball State.

 

 

Lauren Johnson — James Whitcomb Riley School 43

Lauren Johnson has been an educator for more than 15 years. She’s worked in IPS for 12 years and spent 10 of those as a school administrator, leading Raymond F. Brandes School 65 for the last seven years.

Johnson has a proven track record for building strong school communities with strong community partnerships. She’s passionate about engaging students in great literature, science, technology and research activities.

When asked about one of her focuses as principal of James Whitcomb Riley, she said, “I love providing opportunities for students to grow through learning and extracurricular experiences based on their interests and then seeing that growth translate into higher academic achievement.”

She obtained her bachelor’s degree in general education from IUPUI and also her master’s in educational leadership from IUPUI. Johnson has a license in learning disabilities and gifted and talented education, and is a state-certified mentor for new teachers.

 

 

Adrienne Kuchik — James A. Garfield School 31

Adrienne Kuchik has worked as an educator for about 15 years. She’s worked in IPS for three years, serving as assistant principal and interim principal at James A. Garfield School 31. During that time, she provided weekly lesson plan feedback to teachers, which helped improve the school’s state letter grade. She also helped reduce James A. Garfield’s out-of-school suspension rates by more than 75 percent.

For the 2019-20 school year, Kuchik plans to implement Project Lead The Way, a STEM curriculum and a robotics program.

When asked about her leadership philosophy, Kuchik said, “As the leader of James A. Garfield, my goal is to build a better future for all scholars along with all stakeholders. I set out to achieve this goal by promoting a culture based on trust and acceptance, by valuing people and their opinions, and by providing all scholars with endless opportunities for success.”

Kuchik received her Master of Business Administration in educational leadership from the University of Indianapolis. She earned her Bachelor of Science in education from Indiana University.
