Learning Team

Learning Team

If it’s taught in the Indianapolis Public Schools district, whether to students or employees, then Teaching and Learning had a hand in planning it. We help plan how ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, World Languages, ESL and Pre-K courses are taught and how instruction is made available. We’re also deeply involved in our employees’ professional development, including preparing, training and recruiting of high quality teachers and principals. Our students and employees can turn to us with all their instructional needs, and we are happy to serve them.

We can be contacted directly at teachandlearn@myips.org.

Science of Reading

IPS has already taken important steps to build educator understanding of the science of reading and adopt and implement high-quality instructional materials grounded in the science of reading and is poised to take additional steps.

IPS has a comprehensive ELA curriculum aligned to college and career readiness standards in place, as well as supplemental curriculum for phonemic awareness, and has adopted a phonics curriculum to launch in order to better support educators to implement the science of reading in their classrooms and ensure that all students establish strong reading foundations in the primary grades.

IPS has provided training to educators on the science of reading and use of high-quality instructional materials for the past two years and will expand this training.
