The Edison School of the Arts Bands are beginning/intermediate and a select advanced class. Students will learn standard beginning fundamentals of chosen instrument. They will then progress to more advanced techniques and musical literature. The purpose of this group is to help students develop life skills, as well as, music skills. It is hoped that all students will go on to pursue performing on an instrument in middle and high school. Students will be held accountable for daily behavior at school,maintaining acceptable grades in core subjects, rehearsal behavior, and attendance both at school and rehearsals, and performance attendance.
The Edison School of the Arts Advanced Band is considered a select audition only performance group. This group (at times only part of the group) will perform at many and various concerts throughout the school year, both on and off campus, during the school day and in the evenings. They will attend Indiana State School Music Association Organizational contest in March of 2017. This contest is mandatory. Students in grades 6 – 8 will be eligible to audition for this group. All performances are mandatory, performance attire is mandatory, and advanced notification will be given. Failure to comply with guidelines will in lowering of their grade on their progress report.
Band is a graded class. Students will be graded as such:
Attendance for each rehearsal & performances
Instrument, Music and supplies at rehearsals
Positive participation in rehearsals
Periodic Playing Quizzes
Practicing at home
