Dear Blue Devil Community,
I take great pride in this opportunity to introduce myself as the interim principal at Shortridge High School. During my first sixty days, I plan to embark on a look, listen, and learn period to familiarize myself with the traditions, values, processes, and goals of Shortridge High School.
Although my professional career has been in Texas, I am a native Hoosier, born and raised in Sullivan, Indiana. My wife, Alys, and I moved our family to Indianapolis last summer to be closer to family here in the Midwest.
My college degrees are from Indiana University and Sam Houston State University. My prior experiences include 8.5 years as a high school principal, 5 years as a junior high school principal, 4 years as a human resources director, and 4 years as an executive director in curriculum and instruction while employed in two districts in the Houston, TX area.
Shortridge has a storied history as the oldest public high school in the State of Indiana. Numerous alumni are accomplished achievers in medicine, law, politics, education, science, and many other areas. I intend to uphold that legacy of high achievers for future graduates of Shortridge High School.
My tenure as your interim principal is undetermined; however, it is my intent that Shortridge High School will excel as the city’s top International Baccalaureate program, that our visual and performing arts will shine and that our athletic teams will compete with tenacity.
I believe high schools should focus on not only the graduation rate, but also how we can best prepare our students for post-graduate success in a two or four-year college, a vocational certification program, or the military.
I take this opportunity to welcome all our stakeholders – students, teachers, parents, alumni, and community as we look forward to a great 2019-20 school year. I hope you will join me as we strive for Shortridge to serve as a model for urban education.
